Recently there has been a lot of talk about microbeads in face wash and how awful they are for the environment – one of my favorite products of all time contains microbeads and I’m trying to be more environmentally-aware so I needed to find an alternative. Amie is a skincare line out of the UK which is launching this month in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart. It’s free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oils, petrochemicals, animal extracts (except beeswax in the deep cleaning mask) and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Amie Radiant Dawn Exfoliating Daily Wash
$10.00 | 150 ml
Amie’s award-winning gentle and effective formulas are your skin’s best friend: bursting with high-quality naturally derived plant extracts that work in complete harmony with your skin to keep it clear, soft and radiant.
This is the product I was most excited to try, because they use blueberry seeds for the scrub. The green apple scent is really quite nice and my skin feels clean without feeling tight after using it.
**UPDATE** big learning lesson for me, I need to pay more attention to ingredients and less to marketing – yes this product contains blueberry seeds for exfoliating but it also contains Polyethylene. You can find an up to date list of products containing microbeads here. I am sorry for the misinformation, the wording “This hard working cleanser is bursting with naturally active ingredients including exfoliating blueberry seeds to life away oiliness, dirt and grime” led me to believe there were no plastic microbeads, that was a bad call on my part. I have looked in to it and the Amie team has stated they are working on reformulating this product to replace the PE beads with rice starch particles, and hope to launch it later this year. I will update once that has happened.
Amie Morning Dew Matte Finish Moisturiser
$12.00 | 100 ml
Morning Dew is a really light daily moisturiser that’s totally mineral oil-free and parabens-free. Quickly and easily absorbed into the skin, it gives skin all the hydration it needs while controlling shine and leaving a smooth, matte finish that’s a perfect base for make-up or facing the day or night ‘au naturel’
I don’t mind my face products having a scent, but if you do this may not be a product for you – The smell is amazing, I think it’s the rosehip… it’s delicate and pretty. It did leave my skin feeling very hydrated, and the matte finish is great for controlling shine.
Amie Morning Light Hydrating Moisturiser
$12.00 | 100 ml
Amie’s new Morning Light Hydrating Daily Moisturiser is a perfect blend of high-quality plant extracts and skin-friendly natural ingredients all designed to keep your skin soft and moisturised, all day long.
Perfect for skin that is prone to dryness and in need of gentle, effective nourishment, this lightweight rose-scented lotion is easy to apply and absorbed quickly, giving skin long-lasting hydration.
If I had to pick a favorite, it would be this. it’s very lightweight, my skin feels amazing, and the smell… I don’t know if my hands have ever been softer because I keep putting it on just so I can smell it. So again, if you aren’t a fan of your skincare products having a smell, you might not like this. It’s very flowery (key extracts include Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract, and Malva Sylvestris Extract) but I don’t find it irritating or offensive, I find it very relaxing.
Amie Spring Clean Cooling Clay Mask
$12.00 | 100 ml
Spring Clean Deep-Pore Cleansing Mask is a wonderfully refreshing deep-cleansing treatment that works pore-deep to draw out dirt and impurities while soaking up excess oil and helping prevent blemishes. Cools and refreshes leaving skin feeling really clear, clean and smooth. Helps keep pores clear, dermatologically tested, pH balanced.
I was a little concerned when I first put this on because the mint smell was quite strong and I thought my eyes might get irritated, but within a minute it had calmed down and just felt amazing. I left it on for the full 10 minutes and loved the cooling sensation and how it left my skin feeling. They recommend using it 1-2x a week so I use it post-workout on Sundays, I think it will be a great way to relax before the work week starts!
I have been using all 4 products for almost 2 weeks, my skin feels fabulous and I haven’t had any breakouts, which is saying a lot considering how many problems I’ve had with my skin since Cordelia was born. I will update this post if that changes, but in the past if I was going to have an issue the problems have started by now. I am really impressed with the quality of the products for the price they are retailing at (ranging from $6.50 – $12.00 CDN), and will definitely be trying more of the line.
